hey Boris. thanks for taking a peak.
you could create a newItem to post something.
i don't know. part of user testing is to catch the confusion, bugs and feedback and think on it ;-)
btw, i checked xmlns.inreplyto.me and you should be able to login.
i think it was initially set to moderate new users and locked the user account but i unlocked it a while ago and disabled that setting for future users.

how's rsshero going? i will provide feedback at some point. it seemed to work well with my goog reader import.

With social networks becoming more localized, for my Masters Thesis at NYU, I am focusing on location-based services (LBS). The study aims to understand how the three key factors—practical functions, fun & games, privacy risk—affect the adoption of location-based services applications. Please do a good deed, fill out this short and completely anonymous survey (https://www.113.vovici.net/se.ashx?s=13B2588B58E0782D). Please email me if you like a copy of this study. Thanks.
Another possibility is that Twitter itself provides a feature for importing RSS just like many other services do such as Tumblr. This would if effect largely make Twitterfeed etc unnecessary or even violators if Twitter were to add new terms that prevent 3rd party services from importing content on behalf of other users. Twitter may include a curation/filtering layer and of course a volume control to its own RSS import functionality.

An interesting project might instead be a Chatroom Tracker. Rather than just build a chatroom service, let any other service ping the tracker whenever a new chatroom is created. The Chatroom Tracker would list all active and archived public chat rooms and chat logs. Geolocation would be passed to the tracker as well so essentially a user could lookup nearby chats and see what service they are on and what app you may need to download as well as how many people, when started etc etc. Seems smart.

Hey I never chimed in here! Just like me. So, yeah, I've come back and read this post a bunch of times over the past year, remembering your idea for in.rp.ly/to and trying to figure out federated comments. I've been using textInput (both mailto: and http:) to create a salmon-like upstream flow for replies, while also using StatusNet's conversation metadata and Activity Strea.ms semantics. before i explain my solution I wanted to get my http://openappstore.com project ready -- it's a place for open source apps [with each app having separate ipad, iphone and desktop versions all-in-one] pretty interesting ;-) It's working ok now so I should be able to publish my SWAT0 flow this weekend. -- Brian

Hey Raymond. No I have not seen this Clay Shirky video. Will listen now. Thx.
Yeah i'm still *struggling* with the lack of social intimacy on the interwebs these days.
Its an interesting observation and occasionally I will touch on it. It does not effect me personally but since it is a difficult question, i like to ponder the answers.

I like the "God message" idea, meaning the beginning should be something with weight. Not everyone responding on something like "I just saw Nicholas Cage!" or "I wrote a new blog post, go read it now!", but something more substantial, more grounded. The discussion would indeed be chaotic, but it could in fact also be very interesting. Have you seen this by Clay Shirky? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2GyPniW2eM#t=10m51s - the Cost of communication - if heightened - could change things. What if there was some screening, or randomness, as to who got to have that God's message that day/week? Would our message be more considered?

I've found that Google Buzz is the best geolocative service of the bunch. You get long and short posts from people near your location without any of the gameness of foursquare. It's a great way to meet the locals because it's just like overhearing them chatting a coffee shop or the like, butting into the conversation is encouraged.

BTW... to access this great feature, you have to use the mobile site. And I haven't figured out how to access that from a standard browser without some user agent fu.

One reason I have kept at blogging is that longer writing doesn't belong on social networking sites.

Another reason is that blogging is less structured. You have more power over the form, especially the markup.

Also, I think of it as something like hosting a party. Sometimes I go to other people's houses, sometimes they come to mine.

btw, my random category will have more spelling and grammatical errors than elsewhere. its a sloppy category. thats the way it should be. i dont self-edit much at all anyway. technically i dont have time to blog. but i'm doing it in my spare moments. banging shit out. i'm not a friend to capital letters. and a write how i think. so, that might not be very consumable to many but this is no formal blog and i'm not here to impress. just getting stuff out of my head or passing along a link.

turns out this is not too ideal when trying to run on same domain as your blog. at least not as i have mine setup. trying a subdirectory as vocal.ly/go and the urls are not redirecting properly. might go with a subdomain. errrr.

I left this comment on
http://www.businessinsider.com/feedburner-is-googles-biggest-f-up-2009-9#comment-4a9f2838913ac80224f28a4f

<blockquote>
RSS is crucially important to the web. This does not mean that a viable business can be based off of being the primary controller of it, as Feedburner had tried to do.

Feedburner was never necessary. But a few things made it appealing. People love stats. People are lazy.

Instead of learning how to manage and own your RSS feed(s), publisher's instead chose to use the hip service that would take care of the voodoo. In return, the publishers got to use a poorly designed interface loaded with stupid feature names and cluttered with gimmicky gadgets for stats that was more of a novelty fix than i in depth analysis of reader and traffic patterns.

Google may have thought it wise to swallow Feedburner. And let's face it, $100million is nothing to Google. Even the nearly $2billion for youtube was an easy transaction for Google. So they can kill an acquisition and not feel like a failure about it. Often, that is why they acquired a company in the first place. Kill momentum. Control momentum. Re-invent and re-ignite momentum under the Google brand.

Google may even want to kill RSS. They may want to forge ahead with Atom + PubSubHubBub and the Wave Protocol and see RSS as a distraction. I don't know.
but Google has a calculated strategy for everything and what seems like a mistake is not necessarily one. I'm sure that in some cases, disorganization is a factor as well. But we should not assume.

Look on the bright side of the Feedburner debacle. For all I care, FeedBurner could burn down. And in place of that is what should have happened to begin with.... RSS controled, owned and managed by the publishers themselves. It's not difficult, folks. And it's good to learn about RSS.

Also of interest is some fun experiments going on with http://rssCloud.org to make RSS move a little faster (like PubSubHubBub).

screw it. i'm just adding a tweak to the template instead - "tweet this" - i'll just use that. light-weight solution. heh.
man, wordpress is not that fun for me to use. hoping what i gain by using it balances all that i displike about it. it feels like a struggle right now. i know eventually i'll write some new blog script and use that instead.

dealing with fragmented discussion..... just wanted to include a reply to dave winer over on friendfeed:
Dave Winer:

<blockquote>Namespaces are your friend!! :-) </blockquote>

i replied:

<blockquote>They are my friend so i've learned. I use them often, sometimes reluctantly. A project for an employer was a perfect case for using the SMIL standard. But my argument failed and we started with an RSS namespace instead which devolved into a hybrid DTD based off of XSPF. Our stuff works, but I have this drive to leverage existing specs especially when functionality can neatly fit. I am all for using namespaces. But I cant help myself and enjoy the debate for what can be considered, oddly, the underdog (the standard spec). Here is a thread of interest from 2003 that I just found - http://keithdevens.com/weblog/archive/2003/Jun/14/CommentsRSS :)</blockquote>
