Updates from April, 2010

  • Well…. of all the requests I have received to edit my wiki page on crowdfunding (http://crowdfunding.pbworks.com/), this one has me confused as to how to respond.
    Suggestions?

WordPress is like Windows. It’s massively popular and used by millions. This also makes it the biggest target for script kiddie hackers. You could argue that their is a twisted symbiotic relationship since the software improves with every patched hole that is creatively revealed. But some bloggers do really get screwed with and its not fun.

WordPress has some decent backup plugins and I am running one that emails my gmail account every night with the attached backup file.

    WP BACKUP EMAIL

Though this does give some peace of mind, the real problem with web security is that it revolves around your email address. Passwords, confidential files, contacts etc etc are all right there in your email account with only a single password as an obstacle. Once your email is compromised, the digital intruder can get access to any number of other accounts…. whether that be your social network services or banking services…. you can get hit hard.
This is a topic I would like to write about again so i’ll just end with the most obvious tip.

Change your email passwords often and make them “very strong” and automate data backup.

    Interesting project.
Brandon actually live nearby to me.
Also, I coined the term Crowdfunding in 2006 ina blog and a wikipedia article quickly followed. Wikipedia editors decided it was not a valid article and I was tired of the cat and mouse effect of maintaining it there so I moved it over to http://crowdfunding.pbworks.com.
Anyway, take a look at AMHF!

I was just playing with my Titanium rssCloud app and having fun with the real-time effect of my test feed. i’m just using a webapp as a proxy to the cloud hubs so this subverts any firewall issues that have been mentioned. Now i’m looking at Entourage which is probably what I should focus on if i’m going to move forward with Titanium as framework for an rssCloud app.
Of particular interest in Entourage MQ:

Entourage MQ is a client-side message bus that enables many-to-many message pub-sub. It is seamlessly integrated with our Entourage Service Brokers to provide a powerful message-oriented client/server architecture, but it can also be used to easily consume any REST-based service.

Good news! It appears that WordPress.com blogs/feeds now support rssCloud.
